FFI, State of Ceará to develop green H2 projects in Brazil

Fortescue Future Industries Pty Ltd (FFI) and the State of Ceará, have signed an MOU to assess the opportunity to develop hydrogen-based green industrial projects in Brazil.

The MOU will allow for FFI and the State of Ceará to conduct development studies into the feasibility of installing a renewable green hydrogen plant in the State of Ceará. It will also enable collaboration with local universities to develop research programs to foster hydrogen related technologies, with a vision to train and hire local personnel as well as retain services and buy products locally where possible.

"We want to drive the renewable green energy and product industry by harnessing the world’s renewable energy resources to produce green electricity, green hydrogen, green ammonia and other green industrial products," FFI CEO Julie Shuttleworth AM said.

The availability of green hydrogen and renewable power in the State of Ceará is expected to drive further sustainable industrialization.

"The State of Ceará has significant renewable energy potential, attractive port infrastructure and is a strategic location," said FFI President Latin America, Agustin Pichot. "This agreement will allow FFI to work with the State of Ceará to assess the opportunity to develop a green hydrogen production project, leading Brazil’s energy transition towards decarbonization."
